Steps to assist with a resolution:

Log onto your PC using your windows account credentials.

Do not click on the Critical Windows error or the sign out, now error button. As this will restart your computer quite fast.

Press Alt + Control + Delete together and then go to task manager.

Run CMD as Administrator. From its directory within the C: Windows\ system32\ folder.

Type in sfc /scannow and press enter (wait for the process to end).

Go to CMD again, run command type; msconfig

Go to boot in msconfig, and select boot in safe mode with networking.

Click apply and restart when prompted by the computer.

Login and repeat steps 6-7 and select normal boot option, untick the safe mode option.

Restart and logon to your PC using your normal logon method. (Your last password/pin prior to making changes).

Check for Updates through Control Panel / System Security.

You should now have the start bar access and regained control over your computers desktop functionality as per normal. If you get stuck with step 5, or it happens again, please read an articles on how to access safe mode properly as you want to reboot your computer into safe mode to repair any corrupt system files.

Alternatives methods, Recommended to attempt a safe boot to begin with.

Uninstall Avast / or Update and then repair worked to resolve issues with AV or repair / remove dropbox as a possible solution.

User your Flash Drive or Installation Media and Boot from Removable Disk Drive and Installation through BIOS again if data on machine you want to attempted a repair perform diagnostics within System Restore or System Repair automatic options within Windows or prior to booting using F8 Startup / boot options or msconfig.

Only if recent upgrade from windows 7 or 8 could try re- install within windows / then try update all drivers. (Via Install Media or Reset Option in Windows).

Update video Drivers from the manufactures website first or Nvidia/ATI website or manufacturer’s depending on equipment drivers required.

Refresh Firefox by closing down background tasks and going to troubleshooting after the application responds, or refreshing it often may repair browsing functionality issues after system repairs.

Check your System Control Panel for Windows Updates if unable to resolve the issue or you contact MS support for technical assistance online via their homepage.
